The windsor knot

The Windsor knot is the knot for special occasions. This knot is classic and typically English. It owes its name to the Duke of Windsor, who made it very popular. As the finished knot has considerable volume, it is preferable to restrict its use to wide-spaced collars. This knot is complicated to form. It has to fit exactly between the two ends of the collar, and must completely hide the top button of the shirt.

Step 1-10:

  1. Start with the wide end on your right. Extend it about 30 cm below the narrow end of your necktie
  2. Cross the wide end over the narrow end
  3. Bring the wide end up through the neck loop from underneath
  4. Bring the wide end down to the left
  5. Bring the wide end around the back of the narrow end to the right
  6. Bring the wide end up towards the neck loop, this time on the right side
  7. Cross the wide end in front and to the left
  8. Pull the wide end of the tie under the loop around your neck
  9. Put the wide end through the knot at the front of the tie
  10. Tighten the knot by pulling down on the wide end. Use both hands to create the perfect triangle. Draw up to the collar and you are now ready for the day.
